Imagine another afternoon with good friends at an old-time string band festival, warm and familiar, yet fresh with adventure, energy, and anticipation. The afternoon descends into evening shadows. Campsites pulse with fiddles, banjos, guitars, and driving bass. Take a stroll and pop into a nearby camp site, have a listen, then wander to another camp, and repeat. As late evening restlessness stirs, various jams drift apart, new jams form, flowing into the depth of night, and repeat. Each jam, campsite, blend of instruments, players, choice of key and tunes, each tune played, is unique, a different thing.

Mantras shaping this collection: Come to play and have fun. Capture the spirit of friendship and community in abundance at festivals and old-time gatherings. Share precious and fleeting moments with each other, made ever more meaningful this past year. Produce high quality recordings in a variety of string band settings, helping conjure the imagined experience above. Create memories. Share our passion for string band music. Embrace the folk in folk music, relish balance in diversity, and trust the organic flow of a jam.

These recordings were spread over four different locations and weekends, each with a number of different lineups. The intent was to record with folks we’ve played with over the years, and continue to, often as neighbors at festivals sharing friendship.

We think of the threads that ran up to and into this collection, starting with countless old-time friends and mentors from North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, West Virginia, across the US, and around the world. We think of the festivals, parties, dances, the dancing, the music in our living rooms, spilling out onto our porches, and into our lives.
